On Friday 2nd of July we had a visitor named Whae Hei who came in to teach us how to weave since it was Matariki week. Whae Hei decided to teach us how to make a ball out of flax. Whae Hei asked Pila and Tautaina to go outside to collect some more flax so that everyone gets a flax. She then asked us to get two pieces of flax and tie the ends together, we then were told to plait the flax as if we were plaiting hair but instead of plaiting it normal we had to go over with the left flax and then under, over with the right flax.
At first I was struggling because I didn't get the hang of it but eventually I got the hang of it and finished making a ball out of flax. We then had to fold the ends inside the flax and then cut the left overs off. Overall it was fun making a ball out of flax and experiencing how to make a ball out of flax.
Thats cool! Great Blog!
ReplyDeleteAwesome blog Sofaia - yes I think we all struggled but we eventually got there in the end. What I really liked about your post is how you have shared some of the instructions used to make the ball. One suggestion I would like to make is - could you create a video How to make a flax ball so that others could learn how to make one. Keep up the awesome learning Sofaia.
